Program Description

Palawan, officially the Province of Palawan, is an archipelagic province of the Philippines that is located in the region of MIMAROPA. It is the largest province in the country in terms of total area of 14,649.73 square kilometers.The capital City is Puerto Princesa. In addition, Palawan is one of the best places to visit in the country, as it is consistently ranked as one of the best islands in the world, and for a good reason. It boasts white sand beaches and islands, crystal clear blue waters, a spectacular variety of marine life, shipwreck sites, amazing waterfalls, majestic towering cliffs, historic places, savory local delicacies and dishes, and rich and diverse culture groups that will offer you amazing, breathtaking and unforgettable experiences.

Meanwhile, one of the best spots to explore Palawan lies in the Southern part of the province, the Municipality of Aborlan. Aborlan is known to be the sleeping town in the Southern part of the province. In addition, Aborlan is a coastal municipality with a land area of 807.33 square kilometers which constitutes 5.51% of Palawan’s total area. Aside from that, Aborlan is known to have amazing and untouched tourist attractions that will leave you with so much admiration and unforgettable experiences such as crystal clear rivers, waterfalls, white sand beaches, and many more.Moreover, Aborlan is not just about scenic views, but also rich in Culture. In fact, it has an indigenous tribe named Tagbanwa. This tribe is the oldest ethnic tribe group and is rich in native culture.They also take part in the Rakudan Festival by showcasing their cultural dances and clothes. They are also known to practice the shifting cultivation of upland rice and are known for a rice wine ritual called Pagdiwata.The Tagbanwa tribes also believe in a lot of deities that they believe can be found in their surroundings.

Thus, this project is designed in order for you to explore and experience the scenic views and attractions of the town, historic places, rich culture, lifestyle, and customs of the Aborlan Community and in Palawan Community in general.This experience will make your stay surely memorable as well as comfortable.

Similarly, this well-designed and action-packed week will let you see the typical way of living of the people in Aborlan. You will have a time to visit the Town’s Tourism Office and learn more about the culture and places to visit  in the town. You can also have some time to buy souvenir items from the town’s local public market which was originally made by the locals. Similarly, you will be amazed as you will see what products are being produced here in Aborlan and being sold by them in the market. Subsequently, you will be trained in making a pot or any design that you can make that is easier for you. In pottery making, you will use clay using your bare hands. Thus, you will be able to see and experience the process of making beautiful pots with the help of the locals.

Correspondingly, you will also have the chance to see, relax and have a picnic in Talakaigan River. It is a half day activity and you will have some time to swim and savor the crystal clear and refreshing water of Talakaigan river. Apart from that, you will have a time to visit the tribal villages of Tagbanwa and Palaw’ an tribes and be able to see the basic way of living of the people in the tribe. In addition, you will experience how to weave a basket or bag with the guidance and help by the tribal people.

Moreover, you will experience and see the hidden beauty of Aborlan nature as you will visit the crystal clear water of Aborlan waterfalls. Trekking for a few hours, have lunch in the area and swimming in refreshing water that will make your day perfect. 

Furthermore, you will have the time to visit the City of Puerto Princesa and see more of the culture.You will also be able to explore and visit the Palawan Museum and one of the historical spots, the Plaza Cuartel. You will also have a chance to see the products that are originally made by the locals at the souvenir shop where you can also buy some items.

Thereafter, you will see and tour around at the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center or the famous Crocodile Farm where you are able to know more information about crocodiles in Palawan and be able to see how they look and how big they are. A perfect day to end the week is that you will  have a full day to relax on the beach with a great massage. Have lunch there and enjoy the peaceful and beautiful view of the place.

On the other hand, a lot of active outdoor activities in this program advise you to make sure that you are Medically and Physically Fit to move around, walk and swim as there are swimming activities.

Similarly, in order to make sure of your  safety and security, you need to keep the following considerations and requirements while taking this spectacular experience and activities.Therefore, you are expected to adhere and follow all the stated rules and regulations set. Notably, you are expected to adhere to the following

  • Always be on time.
  • Follow all the instructions of your local coordinator, tour guide and local operating  staff especially during the outdoor activities.
  • Be respectful with the local program coordinators, local staff,  other participants and to the community in general at all times
  • Be attentive of your personal belongings and valuables during the outdoor activities.
  • We encourage you to be more mindful of the marine environment and use environmental friendly sunblocks and sunscreen
  • Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited during your program schedules particularly during the outdoor activities.
  • Alcohol consumption and smoking cannabis is strictly not allowed at the accommodation centers.
  • Bring extra cash during your outdoor activities;
  • Bring your container bottled water at all times;
  • If you have medical conditions, just inform us in advance.

Additional Requirements

The following are further necessary in order for both the participants, local staff and everyones involved to have a meaningful, enjoyable and safe experience..

  • Older participants or over 65 years are required to have a medical clearance as proof of their physical fitness as they may perform various activities.
  • Participants below 18 years old need a signed parental consent as proof of involvement of their children for the program. If possible, accompaniment by an adult is highly advised.
  • Due to the length and active nature of this program and as there are lots of outdoor activities under the heat of the sun, a decent level of fitness is required.
  • Excellent time management and self – organizing.
  • Strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible.
  • Required a COVID – 19 Vaccination. You are also advised to bring with you a  COVID – 19 antigen rapid test as you need to take one test per week.
  • You are advised to purchase travel, medical and Covid – 19  insurance prior to your arrival.
  • Have completed or recommended the following vaccines: Polio, Hepatitis A, Diphtheria/Tetanus, Typhoid, Malaria, Hepatitis B, Tuberculosis.

 Additional Equipment

Personal belongings such as:

  • There is a lot of walking and exploring, so bring with you comfortable trekking or hiking shoes  so you can move comfortably and easily.
  • Bring Personal toiletries such as basic soap, shampoo, toothpaste and towels.
  • Bring also hat, sunglasses to protect from the heat of the sun particularly during the beach day.
  • You may also bring extra toiletries, towels, extra clothes, swimming attire, extra foods during waterfall/ beach day.
  • An environmentally friendly sunscreen or lotion is also advised to protect you from the heat of the sun and please carry with you preventive agents during outdoor activities, such as mosquito repellents for insect bites or other insects that may irritate your skin.
  • Moreover, bring Medicines with you especially if you have to take specific medicines on a regular basis as well as other medicines for headaches and stomach aches.
  • Refillable water bottles and hydration packs to stay hydrated throughout the day particularly during exploration and outdoor activities.

Dress Code:

  • The Philippines is a Conservative Country, please wear modest clothing covering knees and shoulders. Loose and long clothing is both respectful and tends to keep you cooler in hot climates. Cover up as much as possible in the spirit of the local culture to avoid embarrassment.
  • Your clothes must not be too short, too tight, or too revealing. Kindly make sure your shoulders and legs are covered.
  • It is completely fine to wear western clothes as long as they fit the local standards.
  • Be thoughtful of the graphics, symbols or text printed on your clothing and avoid wearing clothing styles that might be inappropriate most especially when visiting churches and schools during your spare time.
