Program Description

In recent years, the government has placed a continued emphasis on the teaching of the English language in all facets of educational sectors. Despite this, English literacy rates in Thailand remain one of the lowest in Asia. Thus, this is a perfect opportunity for you to impart your knowledge and skills to the young generation of Thai Community through teaching them the English language and other sets of skills that they may use in their future endeavors.

First and foremost, this program consists of working with students in various schools teaching English. In fact, throughout the years, we built strong relationships with several child development centres, kindergarten, primary and secondary schools in and around Hua Hin. However, these meaningful community engagements never stop and we aim to do more in the coming years.

On the other hand, many schools are open to new concepts and approaches to teaching. This means that you may be able to share your new ideas and teaching strategies that might complement the local Thai teaching methods or style. In addition, you are teaching at the classrooms which roughly 15 – 40 students per class with one teacher and range from 2.5- 18 years old.

Moreover, our teaching program serves a dual purpose: First, it is meant to help children in rural Thailand have a chance to speak more English (usually even their teachers are not fluent speakers). Secondly, it will give you an insight into the Thai education system, as well as a  good chance to develop friendships with students and teachers.

Furthermore, during the program, you will leave the centre between 08:30 a.m., 09:30 a.m, 11.00 a.m. and 1. 00 p.m. depending on the school. Expect also to teach for 2-3 hours in a day. The classes will be scheduled either in the morning or afternoon based on the availability of the time slot and the school. Further, there are days when you have to teach kids in both morning and afternoon. Lunch will usually be served at the school or the centre depending on the program scheduled on a particular day. You will be working alongside other teachers and participants in the class where you can also help create lesson plans and organize activities in the classroom.

Meanwhile, please take note of the long holidays, school holidays as well as public holidays. During such times you can join special classes and English camps that are regularly requested by the local community. In the event that the need at this time is at the local child development centre, please keep in mind that you will be working with young children who will require a much different approach than primary or secondary school. Please use your creative skills through song, dance, games, and repetition to help young children to learn and enjoy their introduction to basic educational concepts.

Finally, before you go to the placement, you will work with local coordinators and review the teaching lessons, materials and activities for that day to ensure continuous lesson plans for children.
