As a participant, you will have the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of our Mauritian elderly residents at the convent by fostering a warm and loving environment that honors their wisdom, experiences, and dignity.

Program Description

The Eldercare Program is intended to provide the best possible care and attention to our Mauritian elderly residents in a nurturing and respectful environment. The program is open to anyone who wants to help others, regardless of their background or experience.

As a participant, you will be in charge of assisting residents with their daily needs, such as meal times, daily activities, and going for walks. You will also have the chance to interact with the residents and learn from their experiences.

We believe in instilling a sense of belonging, joy, and purpose in our elderly residents by encouraging social engagement, mental stimulation, and emotional well-being. You will play an important role in improving the quality of life for our elderly residents as a participant by providing companionship, assistance, and a listening ear.

Your Role – General Information

Step into the embrace of the Eldercare program and prepare to embark on a journey of love, empathy, and shared experiences.

Your role is to:

  • Engage in heartfelt conversations and actively listen to the stories and wisdom of our residents.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support, forming meaningful connections with each individual.
  • Assist staff with daily living activities, including meals, personal hygiene, and medication reminders.
  • Plan and participate in recreational activities, such as games, crafts, music, and gentle exercises, with the staff.
  • Help create a warm and inviting environment by decorating communal spaces and celebrating special occasions.
  • Offer a helping hand with light household tasks, such as organizing belongings or writing letters.
  • Collaborate with the staff to ensure the well-being and safety of the residents.
  • Embrace a culture of respect, dignity, and inclusivity in all interactions with the residents.

In the Program, your presence and compassionate spirit will bring comfort and joy to the lives of our residents.

Furthermore, you are expected to contribute your time in the eldercare program for no less than 6hrs a day.

07.00am – Breakfast at the accommodation

07.30am – Departure to the program

08.00am – Activities pertaining to the program as per the schedule

12.30pm – Packed lunch at site

01.30pm – Activities pertaining to the program as per the schedule

03.00pm – Departure back to the accommodation

07.00 pm: Dinner will be served at the accommodation.

Aims & Objectives

  • Celebrate the unique life experiences, wisdom, and contributions of each resident.
  • Enhance the quality of life for our elderly residents through engagement and meaningful activities.
  • Foster an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and love for all individuals in the Elders Home.


Monday to Friday

Immerse yourself in the warmth and rhythm of our Eldercare Program as we cherish the moments shared with our residents.

Throughout your week, you main tasks would be as follows,

  • Morning group gathering, sharing stories, and enjoying light refreshments
  • Engaging activities and recreational sessions
  • Assisting with lunchtime and enjoying meals together
  • Personal care support and afternoon rest period
  • Creative projects, music, and therapeutic exercises
  • Afternoon tea and socializing with residents

Daily activity timings will be planned by the head staff/sister as per the daily requirements and needs.

Participant Criteria & Requirements

Standard Requirements

Minimum age:                18

Maximum age:                65

Minimum English level:        Basic

Minimum French level:        Basic knowledge of French will be an added advantage.

Additional Requirements

Participants below 18 should have parental consent, and participants above 65 should have medical clearance to take part in this program.

Additional Equipment

To ensure a fulfilling experience in the program, we kindly request that you bring the following additional equipment:

  • Comfortable and respectful attire suitable for interacting with elderly residents.
  • Indoor shoes or slippers to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Reusable water bottle & hydration packs.
  • Personal medication / Personal first aid kit.
  • Any talents or skills you possess that could bring joy to our residents (e.g., playing a musical instrument, storytelling, arts and crafts).
  • A heart full of compassion and patience.
