Program Description

Our very own Sports Academy was designed with these factors in mind, so that your interest in sports and enthusiasm to share your knowledge and energy could come and spend meaningful time in the playground. Children from the surrounding community arrive after school and form teams. So, along with a local coach, you can train these aspiring athletes, give them workouts, and then enjoy some refreshments with them at the end of the session.

We hope that one day these young athletes will be able to proudly represent their country on an international stage.

A child’s participation in sports is critical to his or her physical development and will influence their future. We encourage you to be innovative and suggest various sports-related activities based on the students’ ages, preferences, and interests.

If you choose to work on the Fiji Teaching or Sports Coaching project in Sigatoka, you will quickly realize that education is a critical component of achieving sustainable development. Teaching in these communities allows you to make a real difference in the lives of young people growing up in Fiji while also learning about life in Fiji as a teacher. Sports education is extremely important in the lives of young Fijians, with rugby being the most popular sport. The program activities could include teaching sports rules and game basics, showing examples of sports, organizing sport-related activities, playing sports with children, and teaching respect and fairness in sports.

Your Roles – General Information

As a sports coach, your primary responsibilities include teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to young athletes. Additionally, you will introduce basic rules and regulations, organize game plans and matching events, monitor and enhance performances through encouragement, motivation, and constructive feedback, identify the children’s sports development needs, strengths, and weaknesses, and advise on health and lifestyle issues. You are expected to be a part of their journey towards future success.

To hone the skills and potential of the young athletes of Fiji, you may consider imparting some basic skills and techniques. However, keep in mind that they are just starting, and you may need to start at the very basic beginning.

It is important to note that you are exploring the beautiful community of Fiji away from the comfort of your own home. Making a difference in the lives of the children is greatly appreciated. To make your journey meaningful, safe, and sound, you are expected to adhere to and follow all the stated rules and regulations.
